The JSA Exchange Program PDF Print E-mail

The JSA Program aims to promote intercultural exchange and understanding. It is an opportunity for young people from various countries around the world to broaden their understanding not only of Japanese culture and language, but also of what it means to be global citizens. Many past participants in the JSA Program have gone on to form bridges between Japan and their respective countries.

Each year, one high school student is selected to represent Australia in the JSA Program which takes place in Tokyo, Japan. The 10-day all-expenses-paid program includes an International Speech Contest between the 13 participating countries, as well as cross-cultural exchange activities and Japanese language workshops.

Representatives from the following thirteen countries participate in the JSA Program each year: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Russia and the USA.

The JSA Program consists of three components:

1) The International Final of the JSA Speech Contest

The 14th annual International Japanese Speech Contest will be conducted in central Tokyo, in which the selected representatives from the 13 participating countries will present a five-minute speech, and answer questions about their speech before a panel of judges.

2) Japanese Language Workshops

During the workshop, participants in the JSA Program have the opportunity to increase their knowledge of Japanese, through language exchange with young people living in Japan.

3) Cross-Cultural Experience Program

The Cross-Cultural Experience Program is a program in which JSA Program participants and young people from Japan have an opportunity to work towards understanding each other's countries and cultures and deepen their friendship through a wide variety of different activities.
